Elegant Chicago Firehouse Restaurant Wedding | The Morros Photography
At the Morros Photography, we’re fortunate to witness and document some truly beautiful days. This July, we had the immense pleasure of photographing Abby and Andrew's elegant Chicago wedding, a day filled with heartfelt moments and beautiful details. As wedding photographers based in Birmingham, Alabama, with a penchant for traveling anywhere for love stories, we couldn’t have been more thrilled to capture this special occasion in one of our favorite cities.
Our day started at Abby and Andrew’s apartment in Chicago, a meaningful location where Andrew actually proposed! Abby, surrounded by her closest loved ones and her adorable pup Macy, prepared for the big day with a sense of joy and touch of nervousness. She was ready to be with Andrew, her comfort zone.
The first look is always a magical moment, and Abby and Andrew’s was no exception. We met them at Women’s Park, where the sun was shining brightly over a breathtaking garden of hydrangeas. The lush greenery and vibrant blooms created a picturesque backdrop as Abby and Andrew shared a heartfelt and emotional first look. It was a hot day, but they didn’t mind.
Following their touching first look, we headed to Adler Planetarium. With the iconic Chicago skyline serving as a stunning backdrop, we took couple portraits that captured both their love and the city’s grandeur. We also included their small wedding entourage—Andrew’s brother and Abby’s close cousin—in some of the shots, adding a personal touch to their memories.
Abby and Andrew’s day was filled with personalized elements that reflected their unique personalities. For some playful photos, they donned some super cute customized baseball jerseys, a nod to their community and the many friends and family who support them. As educators, they have a broad circle of people who adore them, making these touches even more special.
Their Catholic Mass at Old St. Mary’s Church was a beautiful and reverent part of the day. Andrew’s role in distributing the body of Christ was so sweet to see as he distributed it to his friends and family.
Post-ceremony and after refreshments in the courtyard, we walked with Abby and Andrew to the Chicago Firehouse Restaurant, a venue with sentimental value for us as it was where we shot our very first couple who booked us when we moved to Chicago’s wedding, Shannon and Dan! We captured couple portraits of Abby and Andrew in front of the iconic brown doors and inside at the bar, using full flash to create some fun, cinematic images with a filmy vibe. This venue, with its rich history and stunning architecture, provided a perfect setting for their wedding photos. We just love the rich colors, they pop so beautifully against the historical backdrop.
The reception seamlessly blended class and warmth. The ambiance was elevated with candles and sunlight streaming through the windows, creating a dreamy atmosphere. The reception featured a delicious coursed meal, Andrew’s heartfelt speech, and a prayer from their priest. One of the highlights was sharing dinner with a couple we had previously photographed for their elopement and celebration in Hawaii, Anna and Michael, who are now expecting a little one! They had connected us with Abby and Andrew and we are so grateful!
For dessert, Abby and Andrew’s guests were treated to a room dedicated to an array of homemade cookies from friends and family. The display was beautifully set up and allowed guests to indulge in a sweet end to a perfect meal. The night concluded with a quick and romantic first dance followed by an energetic dance party that had everyone on their feet, celebrating the newlyweds.
Abby and Andrew’s wedding was a testament to the beauty of love, tradition, and personalized touches. From their first look amidst the hydrangeas to the joyful dance party that ended the night, we loved capturing every moment with care and creativity. We are so grateful to have been part of their special day and look forward to many more beautiful stories to tell!
